Although many of you may know this, I've had friends who didn't - basically to reduce on the overall cost of the wedding, contact a food vendor which deals with the hall you are interested in.

From my experience, if you go straight to the hall first, the manager will try to upsell you on their food - and in seeing the combination (food cost and hall cost), you'll be shocked at the sticker price!  I recommend going to Moghul (a great Indian food vendor) or similar and having the manager calculate the cost of food along with the hall together in one figure.  They know how to negotiate with the hall manager - this will reduce your workload along with your financial costs.

Both are important

Food and hall both play vital role in wedding ceremonies. So one should be careful while deciding these thing...

I disagree and think its

I disagree and think its somewhat misleading to say talk to the caterer before you talk to the event coordinator at the venue you are interested in. You should most certainly go to the hall first. They may work with different caterers, or have a preferred one, or may even be able to share personal experiences with which one is better than the other. And in most cases, caterers cannot give you an estimate of how much the hall will cost - it really varies case by case. Some hotels have pre-set packages with certain caterers, others let you handle that separately and just charge and outside catering fee. And there are so many other costs associated with the venue.

It's best to find a venue you love, get some preliminary figures from the event coordinator of the venue and find out their situation re: outside caterers, and then take it from there. Don't rely on restaurants to do the negotiating for you.
